Systemic Approach

The systemic approach focuses on the interactions and relationships between members of the group (e.g. the family system).

The main idea of the systemic theory is that each part of the system (a member of the group), with its unique function within the system, significantly contributes to the maintenance of the stability and equilibrium of the system as a whole. In a systemic approach an individual is not treated as a separate entity but rather as apart of the broader system (family, society, culture, etc.). The systemic approach is used in different settings, from individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy.

In the session, a therapist with a systemic approach will help you identify and understand unhealthy patterns in relationship dynamics so that these can be altered within the existing systems. The focus is on solutions rather than trying to understand the origins of unhealthy patterns.
